Backache
In these days when we are struggling with the coronavirus, many people have started to complain of low back pain as a result of being inactive and gaining weight. Spinal muscles need to be strong in order to carry our body and to be able to carry out our daily activities without difficulty.
ITALY AND WEIGHT ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT RISK FACTOR
Unfortunately, some restrictions have rightly been introduced to combat the coronavirus. Along with these restrictions, there was an increase in problems such as lumbar hernia, narrow canal and calcification, especially since our elderly citizens could not move enough, with the addition of weight gain. Our elderly and overweight citizens are at higher risk.
DESK WORKING OR LONG STANDING CAN INCREASES LACK PAIN
Teachers, academics and office workers who had to work from home were in the risk group due to the uncomfortable sitting position of sitting in front of the computer for a long time. Our patients who suffer from low back pain due to herniated disc, spinal canal narrowing, spinal joint calcifications and similar diseases have also increased their complaints due to sitting for a long time.
LIFTING WEIGHTS IS DANGEROUS
When we lift weights, the load is carried by the spine and muscles. When our back and waist muscles weaken, most of the weight of the load we carry tries to be balanced by the spine and paves the way for the formation of herniated disc. The muscles in the back and waist region, which weaken due to long-term exercise and inactivity, begin to be unable to bear weight. By doing regular exercise, you can reduce the risk of hernia formation by developing the back and waist muscles.
LONG LASTING LACK PAIN MUST BE CAREFUL
Low back pain that does not respond to medication and lasts for a long time is often overlooked. These pains may arise from small fractures due to osteoporosis, as well as from tumors that may occur in the spine and lumbar region. I recommend our patients with long-term low back pain to come to the examination.
RADIOFREQUENCY THERMOCOAGULATION
We have a solution for our patients who do not want to be operated or hospitalized due to the coronavirus. You can get rid of your low back pain in about 20 minutes with the radiofrequency thermocoagulation method, which does not require anesthesia and hospitalization for low back pain. In this method, heat and medicine are applied to the pain centers with the help of very fine needles without pain with local anesthesia only in your lumbar region. The advantages of this procedure are that it does not require anesthesia, does not require hospitalization, the duration of the procedure is short, and you can continue your normal life without any restrictions after the procedure.
This procedure can be applied to our patients of all age groups. Especially our patients who are not able to undergo surgery, who have severe lumbar calcification, who are overweight and who are elderly, benefit greatly. It can also be a solution to the low back pain that does not go away after the surgery in our patients who have hernia or stenosis surgery. This method, which can be applied to our patients who need surgery but whose surgery is postponed within the scope of covid-19 disease measures, can also save time by relieving their pain.
SUGGESTIONS TO PROTECT WAIST HEALTH
REGULAR WALKING EVERY DAY
Regular walking and exercise increase the blood supply of the spinal muscles and ensure their development. The developing spinal muscles also help to protect the spine by taking most of the load on the body during daily activities and weight lifting. In this way, it protects you from diseases such as calcification and herniated disc.
DESKTOP EMPLOYEES MUST WALK 5 MINUTES EVERY 1 HOUR
I will have some advice for our patients who have low back pain and have to work at a desk at home or in the office all the time. They should pay attention to the sitting position and should definitely support the lumbar region with a lumbar pillow. By giving certain time intervals between classes or working periods, for example, taking short walks in the hall at home or in the corridor at home for 5 minutes every 1 hour will help you protect your spine health.
WE MUST CONTROL WITH HEALTHY NUTRITION
Gaining weight due to inactivity disrupts the body’s own balance and increases the load on the spine. Weight gain, especially around the belly and waist, paves the way for herniated disc. Therefore, diets rich in protein and vitamins but low in carbohydrates should be preferred. Nutritional supplements that support bone and cartilage tissue should also be used with the advice of a doctor.
DOCTOR CONTROL SPORTS ACTIVITIES
In order to protect your spine health, sports that develop spinal muscles such as swimming, fitness, yoga and pilates should be preferred, apart from regular walks. Our patients with spinal disorders such as neck and lumbar hernia should discuss with a specialist physician which sport they should do as a result of examinations and tests. Because our patients with lumbar hernia are likely to worsen with sports that require excessive stretching and loading. Therefore, the opinion of the doctor should be sought before starting the sport.
